(1) has been doing the rounds on the internet lately. Logically extending it, I stumbled across the device (2)

Identify (2), and put fundaes connecting(1) and (2).

Madan, thanks for pointing me towards 1 :-) All the rest of you, keep sending stuff in to [email protected]!

(2) is the Jacquard loom. It is possibly the earliest example of a device programmable via an external storage device (i.e. Punch cards). All the famous punch-card computers, starting from Babbage’s analytical engine itself, were inspired by the Jacquard loom.

This guy created something in the mid 90s to display his resume in a neat way on his home page. Today, the thing he created is very popular and millions of people use it.

Who is he? What did he create? (Give us its name at the time of its creation)

This one’s a guest question from duriel (Thanks dude)… Keep ’em coming to [email protected].

These images represent the final six stages/levels in something. What is it?

These were the first six.

Then there were 41. Then a big corporate came along, took over, and it was never the same any more.

First six what? Where?

Went uncracked!

Remember Geocities? It was started by a company called Beverly Hills Internet back in 1994. Websites were organized into groups, each named after a City. These were the GeoCities.

From dibyo, came this question. Thanks dude. Mail in your questions to [email protected]

The person pictured is the fourth man to accomplish something (we know of some/all of the first three to do this). He retired from that life to become a full time artist in 1981. The other picture is that of him while painting one of his better known works. Identify him or the achievement

Hint: Let’s call the guy to the right 1 and the one to the left 2. 2 was 1’s assistant and after 1 died, 2 used data collected by 1 and derived some very important stuff in astronomy.
