In 1939 (thirty years before the Apollo moon landing), the British Interplanetary Society set forth its designs for a Lunar Lander. With plans to have a 1000 tonne rocket, powered by 2490 rockets, this BIS moon ship was a mammoth of a device. The plans were updated in 1949 with the latest tech, to look similar to what you see in the first picture.

The seven people at the top are the seven directors of the nine short films that make up the Animatrix series. The clue is, of course, a picture of the ultra-weird Wachowski brothers(siblings now?) who managed to make one awesome movie, then went on to create two piece-of-crap sequels, and, somehow, produced these mind-blowingly brilliant short films.

The scientist in the picture is Emile Baudot (of “Baud rate” fame) . The second picture is the cover of Coldplay’s album X&Y. The strange glyphs on the cover are, supposedly, the values X&Y written in Baudot Code.
This map lead to a conjecture in graph theory in 19th century which till now has not been proved “properly”. Although computerized exhaustive search proofs exist, mathemeticians reject it by calling it a “telephone directory” and they want the proof to be a “poem”.
