The guy circled is Kevin Poulsen. He gained initial notoriety by a hack where he took over all the phone lines to KKIS-FM (an LA, USA based radio station), and ensured that he was the 102nd caller. The station was holding a contest at the time, wherein whoever would make the 102nd call would win a shiny new Porsche :)
A typical demo of this technique does it this way: You’re sitting at your PC happily looking at something (like in (1)). Guys sitting almost 25m away (not in direct contact with you) can reproduce your entire screen (like in (2)).
What’s this technique called?
It isn’t new, BTW. A proof-of-concept was published by a Dutch researcher in 1985. (The technique was eventually named after him)
