Answer:
The posters (1) and (3) have QR codes in them, as does the Borderlands screenshot (2).

In a worrying new trend, lots of media folks are choosing to embed hidden QR codes in their artwork. This will require you to wave your phone-thing in front of them and get some kind of information which leads you to a website that has (presumably) more marketing material :p

    A QR Code is a specific matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code), readable by dedicated QR barcode readers and camera phones. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background. The information encoded can be text, URL or other data.
