Thus the BSD Daemon was born..the mascot of the Berkley Software Distribution of the UNIX OS.Just like how the Unix processes rely on the fork function to start other processes the Mascot carries a pitchfork.The mascot is popularly called beastie ( a play on the pronunciation of BSD).
