How and where would linux kernel developers run into this chap:

Answer:
When you clean the kernel source tree, you type ‘make clean’. If you really really want to scrub it clean, you type ‘make mrproper’. The guy in the picture is Mr. Proper (Mr Clean for you Americans)

    Mr. Clean guy

quoting wiki : The reason “make mrproper” is used instead of “make mrclean” is because Linus Torvalds was familiar with the name “Mr. Proper” as this is the brand widely known in Europe.

Not “Mr Clean”, I’m guessing. With the kernel reference, it’s probably “MRPROPER”

    Brand : Mr. Proper

“make mrproper” is a command in the Linux kernel build system, used to “clean up” all files from past builds and restore the build directory to its original clean state
