“Excerpts from Elisha Gray’s patent caveat of February 14 and Alexander Graham Bell’s lab notebook entry of March 8, demonstrating similarities.”

The Elisha Gray and Alexander Graham Bell controversy concerns the question of whether Bell or Gray invented the telephone independently and, if not, whether Bell stole the invention from Gray. This controversy is narrower than the broader question of who deserves credit for inventing the telephone, for which there are several claimants.

    Thanks, Wikipedia!

this is supposed to be a graham bell’s copy of elisha gray’s diagram – bell won the patent for the telephone and gray didn’t, though he probably deserved a share, at the least

bell gray smoking gun. A practical telephone was actually invented independently by two men working in the United States, Elisha Gray and Scottish-born Alexander Graham Bell. Incredibly, both men filed for a patent on their designs at the New York patent office on February 14, 1876, with Bell beating Gray by only two hours!

Alexander Graham Bell probably stole the idea of a “a novel liquid transmitter” whose output could be converted into sound from Elisha Gray and claimed the patent for the invention of the telephone.
