The first picture is the controller and the second is the controlled. What is it?

PS – this is not some steampunk stuff. This is genuine!

Answer:
Pictures of the Telekino. Invented by Italian engineer Leonardo Torres Quevedo, this was one of the earliest ever demonstrations of a remote controlled device. It was a remote controlled boat :-)

Yes. But how much steampunk artistry has been inspired by the Telekine controller built by Leonardo Torres y Quevedo.
Tesla’s Teleautomaton may have been first and may have been better since it had a null state; But it’s nowhere near as beautiful as the preserved example of Quevedo’s.

The Telekine / Telekino invented by Leonardo Torres Quevedo. It was the first remote control system and he used it to test transportation systems without human drivers, such as the boat in the second image.
