Apologies for the delay in posting people. Please consider this as a late post of yesterday’s question. Today’s question will be posted in a few hours.

Answer:

Thats our very own Earth and Moon as seen from the Messenger spacecraft which is headed towards Mercury.

Working this one out was simple. This is obviously not the pale blue dot, because Earth does not look like a dot. And since you can see only one moon, Earth is one of the most obvious guesses. And since you can see the moon, obviously the distance form the planet should not be too much. This leaves us with a spacecraft close by, which is the Messenger :)

    Our Earth.
Not clue about where it has been taken from. Doesn’t look like the voyager-pale blue dot.

Picture of “Earth” and “Moon” from a distance of 183 million kilometers (114 million miles).

It was taken from “MESSENGER spacecraft of NASA” launched to study the charecteristics and environment of Mercury from orbit.
MESSENGER stood for “MErcury Surface, Space ENvironment, GEochemistry and Ranging”

My first thought was that it was a pale blue dot, except that it is not blue, or one single dot. The second was that it was a photograph of an extrasolar planet taken by Hubble. The third was that it was a photograph of Sun taken from Voyager or Pioneer.

    Ultimately I have no clue.

Sun and Earth taken from the Voyager probe.

  14. I shall put a wild guess. Picture of Earth and the moon from Cassini?

  15. The Pale Blue Dot is a photograph of planet Earth taken in 1990 by Voyager 1 from a record distance, showing it against the vastness of space.

  16. even the moon is seen :)
