Sarkozy was there (Sarkozy y était) is an exploitable macro series based on a snapshot of the French president Nicolas Sarkozy uploaded via his official Facebook page in November 2009.

On November 8th, 2009, a photograph of Nicolas Sarkozy chipping away at the Berlin Wall surfaced on his Facebook photo

    Sarkozy was there.

A snapshot of the French president Nicolas Sarkozy uploaded via his official Facebook page in November 2009. Allegedly taken on the evening that E. German officials opened up the gate to West (November 6, 1989), the photograph shows a young Sarkozy taking part in the historic Fall of Berlin Wall. But the French media began to scrutinize the authenticity of the photograph, and hence the ‘Sarkozy was there’ meme was born.

    Sarkozy Was There meme…..

On November 8th, 2009, a photograph of Nicolas Sarkozy chipping away at the Berlin Wall surfaced on his Facebook photo album .But on the same day, Alain Auffray, who blogs for the French newspaper Libération, pointed out that Sarkozy’s attendance on that evening was unlikely, since there was no advance warning of the East German announcement before the 6 o’clock news and “West Berliners didn’t begin to attack the wall until the following day, the 10th.”Eventually, French journalists produced archival footage” from November 1989, showing that Sarkozy actually visited Berlin Wall on Nov. 16th, rather than a week earlier on 9th. Amid the intense scruitny of this Facebook debacle came an anonymous comment, setting the proper tone for this photoshop meme:

“And Sarkozy was on the moon, Sarkozy liberated Paris, Sarkozy won an olympic medal…”

“Sarkozy was there”, from France. After he claimed to be at the Berlin Wall collapse and produced a ‘photo’- and then someone dug up records proving he wasn’t in Germany until a week afterwards.

    Sarkozy was there.
Started after Sarkozy had uploaded a pic on facebook showing his involvement in bringing down the Berlin Wall.

    Hard one!
Can’t find anything likely in the “hero” realm that wasn’t started on 4chan (like “An Hero”).
All of these were/are men who challenged us to think.
“How Can She Slap” works w/the title, but not the pics, though it was Indian in origin.
That leaves me with a list of death/dying memes, most of which started on 4chan, or are US in origin and don’t fit in the case of “Tank Man”, who’s likely still alive.

“People die if they are killed.”
    “Did he died?”
    “Finish Him!”
    “Silence! I kill you”

So, I must be way off.

“Sarkozy was there” meme making fun of the French president’s (false) claim that he was present on the day the Berlin wall came down.

Oops, this is Sarkozy Was There, after his claim to be part of the breaking the Berlin Wall was debunked.

  17. Ha ha. The ‘Sarkozy was there’ meme.
The French president uploaded a photo on his Facebook account last year which shows him at the Berlin wall a day before the wall fell. The above images all took inspiration from this.
