1.his son’s painting which inspired John Lennon to pen this song.
    From wikipedia:
    2. The White dwarf star BPM 37093 in the constellation Centaurus, which contains a core of crystallized carbon roughly 4000 km in diameter, is informally named “Lucy” as a tribute to the Beatles song

“One of the stars in Centaurus (BPM 37093) is a white dwarf whose carbon atoms are thought to have formed a crystalline structure. Since diamond also consists of carbon arranged in a crystalline lattice (though of a different configuration), scientists have nicknamed this star ‘Lucy’ after the Beatles song ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.'” — Thanks, Wikipedia!

The drawing that inspired ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’, Centaurus. A recently discovered star in Centaurus has been nicknamed Lucy after the song because it is a white dwarf, which has crystalline carbon, like diamonds.

    (1) Lucy in the sky: The now famous – and valuable – picture Julian Lennon painted of his nursery school playmate Lucy Vodden

    (2) Centaurus

    (1) is the inspiration for the famous Beatles song Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. Apparently a white dwarf in (2) has carbon atoms formed into a crystalline structure similar to that of diamonds therefore they have decided to name it after Lucy of the aforesaid song.

The title is a reference to the controversy that the song is a hidden tribute to the infamous drug.

All in all the connect would be Lucy as in Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds.

A white dwarf recently found in the constellation Centaurus (pic 2) is made up of crystallized carbon and is in effect a giant diamond. It is nicknamed Lucy after “Lucy in the sky with diamonds”. The first pic is the drawing that supposedly inspired Lennon to write the song.
