Jimmy Wales, ‘co-founder’ of Wikipedia claimed that Wikipedia was actually written only by “a community … a dedicated group of a few hundred volunteers”.

Aaron Swartz, wrote an article ‘Who Writes Wikipedia’, in which he proved him wrong.

Wales claimed that a small percentage of contributors were responsible for 80% of the content on Wikipedia. Swartz disproved that by finding that the small percentage of active users were only formatting information rather than adding to it.

Wales made statements, Wikipedia was actually written by “a community … a dedicated group of a few hundred volunteers”, and not thousands and thousands of individual users each adding a little bit of content..

Aaron shwartz, rebuked by stating “insiders account for the vast majority of the edits. But it’s the outsiders who provide nearly all of the content”. He even provided statistical proof by choosing an article.
