The giant Gundam statue protected Tokyo last summer but in September 2009, Bandai decided to retire Gundam once and for all.

But five months later, in December 2009, the city of Shizuoka (some 125 miles west of Tokyo) announced it plans to re-erect the statue in July this year.

  4. It’s a Gundam statue.
It’s in Shiokaze Park on Odaiba island in Tokyo.
It was built to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the Gundam series.

giant Gundam statue with a Light Saber.

    Higashi-Shizuoka Station. Tokyo

Why w.r.t time: 30 year anniversary of the first Gundam Toy robots selling.
Why w.r.t place: The Production Factory for Bandai’s Gundam plastic models are located in Shizuoka.

And unless I’m much mistaken, the title is a reference to MSG.

1:1 scale model of the classic RX-78-2 Gundam mecha, built near Tokyo to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the franchise.
The main monument was completed nearly a year ago.
It’s back in the news due to the new laser it’s sporting.
