  7. Dibyo Says:

Padme Amidala’s senate costume was probably inspired by this photo of a Mongolian lady, taken from a 1921 National Geographic.

Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna of Russia (1875-1960), sister of Tsar Nicholas II also inspired her travel costume or some such

    Dibyo

  8. MadGenius Says:

Xenia Alexandrovna inspired the travel gown, and the royal attire of Mongolian queens inspired the royal dress of Padme Amidala in the Star Wars series.

  9. shrik Says:

In The Phantom Menace, the dress which Padmé wears when addressing the Senate is based on Mongolian imperial fashion worn by Grand Empress Börte (image 2), wife of Genghis Khan. Padmé’s travel gown in Attack of the Clones is based on 17th century Russian fashion photographed on Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna (image 1) in 1903.

    Straight snip from Wikipedia :)

    Wikiquote:
*Many costumes were inspired by the historical royal fashions of different cultures. For example, in The Phantom Menace, the dress which Padmé wears when addressing the Senate is based on Mongolian imperial fashion worn by Grand Empress Börte, wife of Genghis Khan, and other monarchs into the early 20th century. Padmé’s travel gown in Attack of the Clones is based on 17th century Russian fashion photographed on Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna in 1903.*

But there must be more to the question.
