Oh-say-what-you-see!
What sequence connects:
PS: D5PQ has been moderated and points assigned. If any of you saw a jump in your points, this is why.
Cracked by everyone. Yes, the middle guy isn’t a direct connect, but it was a simpler connection :-)
Answer:
Clifford Stall (left) in his book “The Cuckoo’s Egg” mentions a puzzle created by Robert Tapan Morris Senior (the dad of the guy in the middle).
The puzzle asked the reader to identify the next number in the sequence: 1, 11, 21, 1211, 111221,… The puzzle was suggested by Morris Sr. inspired by John Conway (right)
The connecting sequence is the so-called Look and Say sequence.

Aha.. beautiful question!
Clifford Stall
Robert Tappan morris
John Conway!
Clifford in his book the Cuckoos egg mentions Morris Sr(father of person shown in pic 2).
MOrris actually gave the puzzle ” What is the next number in the sequence 1 11 21 1211 111221(Morris Number Sequence) to Cliff due to John Conway!

In order – Clifford Stoll, Robert Tappan Morris, John Horton Conway. Look and say sequence – 1, 11, 21, 1211, 111221 etc.
But the Robert Morris shown here is the son of the Robert Morris who connects directly to the sequence.

The look-and-say sequence, or, as WP puts it:
1, 11, 21, 1211, 111221, 312211, 13112221, 1113213211, … (sequence A005150 in OEIS).
Cliff Stoll, Robert Morris, John Conway. (Although the 2nd pic is Tappan of worm fame – the real Robert Morris connected to this is his dad.) Lots of connect fundaes on the WP page..

The “Look and Say” sequence. You’ve got the wrong Morris, though. You’ve included Junior instead of Senior.
In chronological order it’s:
John Conway
Robert Morris
Clifford Stoll

look and say sequence though i do believe you have the picture of the son and not the father.

Ans: the look-and-say sequence
Pic 1: Clifford Stoll
Pic 2: Robert Tappan Morris
Pic 3: John Horton Conway
There is a description of Morris in Clifford Stoll’s book The Cuckoo’s Egg. Many readers of Stoll’s book remember Morris for giving Stoll a challenging mathematical puzzle (originally due to John H. Conway) in the course of their discussions on computer security: What is the next number in the sequence 1 11 21 1211 111221? (known as the look-and-say sequence). Stoll chose not to include the answer to this puzzle in The Cuckoo’s Egg, to the frustration of many readers.

cliff stoll, rtm and john conway. the sequence is the look and say sequence. i’d have thought rtm’s dad is a more appropriate inclusion in the question.

Say what you see,eh.
2 is robert tappan morris.
3 is the 1 11 21 1211 111221 man, conway sequence.
robert morris, 2′s dad, was also known for this.
after wiki-ing, 1 is clifford stoll.

Connect : look and say sequence.
from wiki : It is also popularly known as the Morris Number Sequence, after cryptographer Robert Morris, and the puzzle is sometimes referred to as the Cuckoo’s Egg from a description of Morris in Clifford Stoll’s book The Cuckoo’s Egg.

The Look and Say sequence.
Cliff Stoll was asked the look-and-say sequence by Robert Morris Sr. (Robert Tappan Morris’ dad) in one his talks, which is a John Conway original.
