Live(?) long and prosper

— srikanth @ 9:15 pm, GMT +0000 ( 1246050938 )

The title might be a tad tasteless, but still: Where would you find these three famous people, and about 16 other less-famous people together?

Cracked, more-or-less, by udupendra , bobo , Rogi , tete80 , wanderlust , Raghuvansh , lordmaldy , p vs np , Dibyo , Nakul , superbrat , abhijeet and gudanggurum.

Answer:

Timothy Leary, Gene Roddenberry and Gerard O’Neill were among 19 people who were the first to be buried in space. Their remains were sent up the so-called “Founders flight” of Celestia in 1997.

  3. Rogi Says:

Actually, there were another 21 people.
While I\’d like to say their ashes are still orbiting the earth, The capsules succumbed to orbital decay in 2004.

  4. tete80 Says:

  5. wanderlust Says:

  6. Raghuvansh Says:

  7. lordmaldy Says:

Timothy Leary, Gene Roddenberry and uh… James Doohan? (Scotty).. had their ashes strewn in space by a mission aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia in 1991

  8. p vs np Says:

Well, technically, we wouldn’t find them in totality, but we’d definitely find some parts of their cremated bodies, in the form of ash, orbiting our earth.

Again, we need not necessarily find them ‘together’, as stated. They may well be placed in different orbits :|

  9. Dibyo Says:

The first space burial Earthview 01: The Founders Flight was launched on April 21, 1997. An aircraft carried a modified Pegasus rocket containing samples of the remains of 24 people to an altitude of 11 km (38,000 ft) above the Canary Islands. The rocket then carried the remains on an elliptical orbit with an apogee of 578 km (361 miles) and a perigee of 551 km (344 miles), rotating around earth once every 96 minutes until reentry on May 20, 2002, northeast of Australia
