Although, as Rogi pointed out, the first image was misleading, this question was cracked by superbrat , wanderlust , udupendra , Atul Mathew , varuns88 , p vs np _and_ Rogi.

@rogi: Thanks mate! My bad, I was mislead and too soon to jump on an img search result :-(

Answer:

  1. Was, I thought (wrongly), a statue of the Three Princes of Serendip
  2. Sri Lanka

Connection: the word “serendipity”.

The word has its roots in the story of the Three Princes of Serendip, who used to stumble onto everything by sheer luck. Serendip was the persian name for Sri Lanka!

Ok, I see Sri-Lanka and hence an all-out timepass guess.

The word is satellite, and Arthur Clarke fundaes follow.

Regarding the weird dudes with sarongs, Clarke is known to wear them.

    1. Three Kings statue, Chiang Mai, Thailand

    2. Island of Sri Lanka (Ceylon)

Best I can do is that there is a chain of islands called the Three Kings Islands where a single Pennantia baylisiana plant was discovered in 1945 that is the only one of it’s kind in the world.

But, it’s probably something much less involved than all of that.

The three princes of Serendip + Serendip (Persian for Sri Lanka) = Seredipity.

    Nice one :)

    Sorry, guys.

The statue is not the 3 princes of Serendip.

It is the three Kings; Mengrai, Ramkamhaeng and Ngam Muang. Founders of Chiang Mai, Tailand.
