The guy in 1 is John Warnock, best known as the co-founder of Adobe Systems Inc. He worked on camelot, a place in king arthur (2), which evolved into pdf (a irritating file format).

Why is it irritating? It’s far better and more useful than .doc (or anything else by MS), for instance.
