(1) is Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, the famous on-screen dance couple.
Dean Kamen (in 2) was working on two products. The first was the iBot stair climbing wheelchair (in 2 again), that he codenamed Fred Upstairs after Fred Astaire.
His second product, the Segway Personal Transporter, was later codenamed Ginger.
