As part of a publicity stunt CBS used the UNIVAC (1) to predict the outcome of a US presidential election.
While the popular media and political pundits of the time were expecting his rival, Adlai Stevenson, to win the UNIVAC predicted a landslide in favour of Dwight Eisenhower(2), which is exactly what happened.
