    “6692B”:

firstly i have an almost phobic perception regarding the (counter) productivity of a Turings Test or such like. On a principled basis, the argument is simply that the already thin line between ‘a computer having to prove itself human’ and ‘a human having to prove himself human’ is being blurred further and unnecessarily at that. i for one would hate the day when i have to exert myself to prove my state of human. the mere potential to avoid a spam bot does not in my books justify a questioning of the tennets of human.
secondly, and continuing from the above, the tennets of human aren’t particularly that sound a test in any case, and on a pragmatic basis the captcha test isn’t really too sound. A simple conversion of the image to gray scale, distilling of the image to remove noise, and application of other filters followed by an extraction of image constants (based on a selection of consistent colour) leaves the image suitably readable. For crying out loud if i can do it by using microsoft paint to extract and microsoft office document imaging as an ocr, then anyone can do it (including a bot). And in most cases, one needn’t even go through all that trouble – take for example today’s image, “6 (slightly angled to the right and in consistent pale blue) 6 (straight, consistent purple) 9 (slightly angled to the left, consistent red) 2 (slightly larger than the others, but straight, consistent blue) B (slightly angled to the right, consistent green)” i just had to run an ocr on it to get a perfect read.
Thirdly, (and while it is not something that i personally have a problem with), the test at present is based on premises which are inconsistent with te larger socio literate spectrum of society, and this is of course an independent criticism from the one that this test would consider a blind and deaf man to be not human and the same for a dyslexic. the language based captcha presupposes, my ability to be fluent in recognizing the numeral/character before me. A presupposition based on negation of cultural, literacy, morality, educational, environmental, perceptional, and interpretation barriers that
are not only very real parameters but are also parameters which are central to the basis of humanity as a whole (i.e. the uniqueness and diversity which makes us human, and which to date cannot be replicated by ai).
However, given that i would be a decided minority harbouring such an opinion, and given that i really wouldn’t have much say in this matter, i’m just doing my little bit to bring the bot upto par in recognizing captcha images. O and by the way your answer is at the weblink hyperlinked to my name today (establishing in a way, (hopefully though arguably) that i do enjoy human as a principle characteristic).

‘Share and Enjoy’ : The official anthem of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation Complaints division, as sung on special celebrations by a choir of over two million robots in a tone that is exactly a flattened fifth out of tune.

dude, we hate captchas more than you..
    see this http://www.boiledbeans.net/200.....ring-test/

Please register and the captchas will vanish.

We tried multiple spam control methods before be chose to add captchas. It is very hard for us to moderate comments when we get more than 45-50 spam comments a day which are filled with links and content very dangerous to be viewed on office networks.

Yes, cracking this captcha is not very hard. The steps you mentioned will take a few lines of carefully written php code, which I had tried when I was in grad-school. But, so far it has worked. We no longer get any spam.

We really regret that we are forcing people to register or type catchas, but we are left no other option.

Until we figure out a better way, you will either need to type captchas or register. If you have any other better ideas, let us know and we will be glad to implement them.(dont ask us to implement intelligent spam filters :D )

    Sorry for the trouble..
