Answer:

Radioactivity.
Uranium in its oxide form was used for various random things until it was discovered that it is radioactive. One such use was in glass coloring because Uranium gave a distinct greenish glow to glass.

details about 1 in teju’s words:
1. French scientist Henri Becquerel wrapped a photographic plate in black paper and placed various phosphorescent minerals on it.These materials glow in the dark after exposure to light, and he thought that the glow produced in cathode ray tubes by X-rays might be connected with phosphorescence. All results were negative until he used uranium salts. The result with these compounds was a deep blackening of the plate.

This led to the discovery of radioactivity.

    1. Phenomenon of Radioactivity was discovered when Henri Becquerel exposed a photographic plate to uranium

    Hint: Uranium treated glass vase

In the hint picture, Uranium glass vase.

  7. 1 is a picture of Becquerel’s photographic plate which he left under some Uranium salts. This phenomenon greatly tickled a lot of people at that time, one of whom was husband-wife Curie pair.

Curie the 29yr old fruit, coined the term Radioactivity(also discovered Radium in the process), bless her!

This looks like the first plate which helped discover radioactivity by Henri Becquerel, who has stored Uranium in his drawer with this.

I wonder what that jar is…

  11. Prasad

1 seems to the photographic plates which got spoilt due to radiation. So 1 led to the discovery of radioactivity. No idea what the hint is….

  12. RajT

At the risk of sounding dumb, i think the 1st pic shows the plate that led to the discovery of radioactivity…but the clue left me clueless and confused.

    easy one :)

That’s a photographic plate and its been exposed to radiation from uranium salt that led to the discovery of radioactivity by becquerel some where in 1900’s …

whats that vase like thing ?
