Answer:

The missing element was Promethium…

95     Americium     1944
96     Curium     1944
61     Promethium     1945
97     Berkelium     1949
98     Californium     1950
99     Einsteinium     1952

Is the chronological order in which these elements were discovered/synthesized.

    Elements 95-99

    Americas – Americium
    Marie Curie – Curium
    UC Berkeley – Berkelium
    California Republic – Californium
    Einstein – Einsteinium

    Fill in the Blank?

    2 ways of doing that

    1. Pierre Curie – because Curium is named after both Marie and Pierre

    2. UC Berkeley again – because Californium is supposed to be named after both UCB and California state. So, a separate UCB pic for Berkelium.

  2. manubhardwaj

The American continent, the Curies on the 500 franc note, the logo of the “Golden Bears” University of California at Berkeley, the flag of the California Republic and Albert Einstein.

Ah good stuff! Americum, Curium, Berkelium, Californium, Einsteinium.

These are references to five transuranium elements

    95 americium Am
    96 curium Cm
    97 berkelium Bk
    98 californium Cf
    99 einsteinium Es

All of these had been created artificially at the Univ of California by team including Seaborg and Ghiorso, etc.

  4. Anand Shankar

artificial elements having atomic number in 90s??Einsteinium, Curium, Californium, Americium?Blank is California….

  5. Anand Shankar

and University of California is in Berkely.so Berkelium also..

  6. svgreatest

From top left: Americum, Curium, Berkelium, Californium, Einsteinium. The blank is California.

    Good Q!
Elements in increasing order of atomic numbers:
    Americum, Curium, Berkelium, Californium, Einsteinium.
The next one should be Fermium with a picture of Enrico Fermi.
I am not sure you have the blank in the right place.

  8. gammafunction

all are people/places after whom elements in the periodic table have been named.
    Americium 95
    Curium 96
    Berkelium 97
    Californium 98
    Einsteinium 99
so the missing link is Fermium -100

    is the blank misplaced?

The connection is : All elements in the periodic table from atomic nos 95 to 99.
The missing blank is : Berkelium ( no 97)
    Explanation :
95 : Map of North and South America : Americium
96 : 500 french franc denoting Marie and Pierre Curie : Curium ( no 96)
97 : : Univ of California at Berkeley : Berkelium
98 : Emblem of University of California and California State Flag(bear Revolt) : Califorium ( no98)
    99 : Einstein : Einsteinium ( no 99)
    Its so 90s indeed!!!

    Connect: Actinoids (previously Actinides)
    Clue: Atomic numbers in 90s

    95 Americium Am
    96 Curium Cm
    97 Berkelium Bk
    98 Californium Cf
    99 Einsteinium Es
    100 Fermium Fm (Fermi)

So missing photo of Enrico Fermi.

Note: could also be one of these
    101 Mendelevium Md (Mendeleev)
    102 Nobelium No (Alfred Nobel)
    103 Lawrencium Lr (Ernest Lawrence)
