He is Joseph Nicéphore Niépce, a French inventor known to be a pioneer in photography. The other picture you see is the earliest surviving photograph, taken by him(or anyone else for that matter).

    Joseph Nicéphore Niépce. The photo is called “View from the Window at Le Gras”, and is considered to be the first photograph made by exposing chemicals to light.

    Apparently the picture took 12 hours of exposure…

    The picture is reputed to be the world’s first photograph. It was taken in 1826 and was developed by French photographer Joseph Nicéphore Niépce. He called this process “heliography” or sun drawing and the entire process took eight hours.

    And pic 2 is the oldest known photograph he’d taken (View from the Window at Le Gras, currently on display at University of Texas at Austin).

    this is the earliest surviving photograph, c. 1826. It required an eight-hour exposure, which resulted in sunlight on both sides of the buildings.
