Cracked by only two: udupendra , prabhu_dc. Bravo!!

Answer:

1. Unisys logo

2. MCP – Master Control Program from the Disney movie Tron

3. A patent by W.S Burrough.

The connect was “Master Control Program”. Let me just quote the perfect answer by udupendra for the fundas

“MCP also happens to be the name of the operating system on Unisys mainframes. (and therefore, retroactively, the OS of Burroughs Large Systems as well)

The additional clue, is of course a patent by W.S Burroughs, the chap who founded the company named after himself. Burroughs (the company, not the man) sometime in the 1980s bought Sperry (once again the company, not the man) to form Unisys.”

First picture is a logo of Unisys. (duh)

Second picture is the villain from that awesome Disney movie Tron. This rogue was named MCP.

MCP also happens to be the name of the operating system on Unisys mainframes. (and therefore, retroactively, the OS of Burroughs Large Systems as well)

The additional clue, is of course a patent by W.S Burroughs, the chap who founded the company named after himself. Burroughs (the company, not the man) sometime in the 1980s bought Sperry (once again the company, not the man) to form Unisys.

  2. I would definitely watch the movie . . . .

Burroughs computer system merged with Sperry Univac to form Unisys.
Lot of the terminologies used in the movie Tron comes from Unisys.
In the movie Tron they have the MCP(Master Control Program) which appears to be a giant red face on a cylinder which is nothing but the red face shown in the second image.
MCP was the name given to the operating systems for the Burroughs large systems, medium systems, and small systems respectively.
MCP plays the negative role in the movie Tron.

    univac

  4. The connect is Burroughs. Unisys was formed by the merger of the Burroughs coprporation and the Sperry’s coprporation. The long red animated face has something to do with either Burrough’s Inc, or the Burroughs 205 hardware which appeared as a computer front panel prop in many movies/TV serials like Batman and Lost in space (the older movie).

It’s the “Burn All GIF’s” campaign that started because of UNISYS patenting the LZ7 technology used in GIF, and UNISYS facing the wrath of the developers who threatened to quit using GIF and use PNG instead.

  6. Preetish

    LZW patent

  7. ram

Unisys : corporation tat has the patent for LZW compresssion the technique use din GIF image compressions.

Image 2 : distorted due to irregular compression.

Thus Patent of LZW is the connect

Burroughs bought the sperry corparation to form Unisys.

  8. Archana

I guess the connection is W.S.Burrough.

Unisys was formed in September 1986 through the merger of the mainframe corporations Sperry and Burroughs.

The Burroughs Corporation began in 1886 as the American Arithmometer Company in St. Louis, Missouri selling an adding machine invented by William Seward Burroughs.

Wild guess: The second picture is an animation from a software on the Burroughs ICON (later Unisys ICON).

  10. prasanthnori

    1) Unisys was formed by the merging of Burroughs(The calculating machine in the extra clue was patented by him)
    2) I seriously don’t know what it is but does it have something to do with the batcomputer or some image of that sort?

  11. Vinod

    Companies taken over by UNISYS

The companies Borroughs+Sperry came together to form UNISYS.Roger Wolcott Sperry won the Nobel prize for split-brain research in 1981.not sure of the answer though :P
