Answers:

Aspirin, 2-acetoxybenzoic acid or acetylsalicylic acid is the common analgesic . Low dose Aspirin has many other medicinal qualities.
The hints:
1. Judas Priest’s Painkiller, hinting the “Painkiller” properties of Aspirin.
2. Thompson and Thompson eating mysterious pills thinking it to be aspirin in”The Land of Black Gold”
